Rockstar Being Sued $500 Million Over Vice City, 15 Years After it Released

Auntie Poulet who?

Rockstar is currently being sued over a character in Grand Theft Auto: Vice City, 15 year after the game first launched.

The game features a character by the name of Auntie Poulet, leader of a Haitian gang. You can watch a clip of her below.

The company suing Rockstar over Auntie Poulet’s image is Psychic Readers Network, owners of the Miss Cleo persona, and supposedly the video game company has profited off of its use of Miss Cleo’s Jamaican accent and general image to the sum of $500 million dollars.

It’s a tenuous link at best, although previous Miss Cleo actress Youree Harris did play the part of the Vice City character. Even so, it’s unlikely Psychic Readers Network will earn even a penny from the suit.

Despite this, Rockstar announced it will still heavily defend itself. “These claims are entirely meritless and completely ridiculous. We will vigorously defend ourselves with regard to this matter.”

It’s also not the first time a company or person has attempted to sue Rockstar, perhaps one of the most controversial developers out there. Only a few years ago Lindsay Lohan claimed it used her image for Grand Theft Auto V, although, as is likely to happen with this case, she didn’t get anywhere.

At least Grand Theft Auto V released in 2013. Vice City launched in 2002, so it’s difficult to see how they’d ever win this suit.

When was the last time you played Grand Theft Auto: Vice City? Do you remember Auntie Poulet? Let us know in the comments section below.
