After nearly 15 years after the original released on the PlayStation 2, Beyond Good and Evil 2 was officially announced during a stunning Ubisoft E3 press conference.
The sequel takes place before the birth of Jade, the protagonist of the original, in a solar system named System 3. Society is multi-ethnic, and hybrids – a blend between a human and animal – are being designed in laboratories only to be enslaved after.
In the trailer we first meet a monkey hybrid doing a deal with a grotesque pig hybrid. The monkey passes over an ‘artifact’ that looks a lot like Pey’j in return for a disc. The golden pig turns out to be Swiss chocolate, leading to a high speed chase on hovering vehicles.
He manages to meet up with what we can assume is a resistance, and passes the disc over to its leader. A strange, glowing artefact appears on a map when it’s booted up, surrounded by floating, dead bodies and spaceship parts. A close up of the captain’s eyes look very familiar, and then it closes. You can watch the whole thing below.
Creative Direction Michel Ancel looked visibly emotional during the announcement, which is unsurprising given that many believed the game would never be in development. The Beyond Good and Evil was a critical success but a commercial failure, but it seems Ubisoft has listened to the huge fan base this time around.
There was no mention of release date, so assume that it won’t be around for some time.
