To be honest, we don’t know much about VR other than it’s supposed to take our lives and flip-turn it upside down much like how a West Philadelphia kid became the Fresh Prince of Bel Air. Though soon we are starting to figure it out thanks to this new video titled “Building VR in VR with the Unreal Engine” uploaded today by Unreal Engine.
The video shows Epic Games’ Tim Sweeney and Mike Fricker trying out Unreal Engine’s latest innovation, the Unreal Editor in VR mode. In the Unreal Editor’s VR mode, developers (and maybe even laymen like you and me) are able to create content in VR using the HTC Vive and Oculus motion controls. Essentially, as the video name’s suggests, building VR in virtual reality.
This may take a couple views for you to wrap your head around it as it is truly insane that we’ve come this far. It’s the future, baby. All bets are off. Watch Building VR in VR with the Unreal Engine below.
How cool is that? Editing the environments you are creating while feeling like you are physically occupying them?
Now, obviously, this is still in development. Unreal Engine has said any feedback is welcome, so if your keen spots something that’s not working, please send them a message.
And for those of us who are just simply impressed by the technology, let’s just talk amongst ourselves. How do you think the Unreal editor in virtual reality will impact the way games are designed? Let us know what you think about this wild new advancement in virtual reality technology Twitter, Facebook or in the comments.
