More Details Revealed About Much-Anticipated Ataribox

New Atari console has AMD custom processor and Radeon graphics.

More details have been revealed for the Ataribox, an upcoming console powered by PC technology.

Gaming pioneers Atari announced the Ataribox will run Linux which would give players more “freedom” when it comes to playing games and streaming content, according to Ataribox creator Feargal Mac. In choosing Linux, Mac claims, “People are used to the flexibility of a PC, but most connected TV devices have closed systems and content stores.”

The Ataribox will also come equipped with an AMD processor with Radeon graphics.

Players will be able to play old and current games digitally, and players will be able to have access to many classic Atari games. The Ataribox comes with USB ports for controllers, an HDMI output for HD play, SD card slot, and an Ethernet jack for online content streaming.

Two versions of the Ataribox will be available for players to choose from. Anyone wanting to relive the good old days of gaming can purchase an Ataribox that sports a wood grain finish, while the other version has a more modern look to it.

The Ataribox will be funded by an Indiegogo campaign that will launch fall of this year. The console’s creator states the reasoning behind this is to “involve as many Atari fans around the world as possible” in creating a product for fans by fans.

The Ataribox is expected to be released in spring of 2018 and will cost between $250-$300. Will you be taking part in the Indiegogo campaign this fall? Let us know in the comments.
