There is still a week until Star Wars: Battlefront comes out but its companion app is out today and you can use it to get a head start on the multiplayer shooter.
The Battlefront app has one major component, a game called Base Command. It’s a turn-based strategy game in which you have to defend a rebel base from an Imperial attack. The Imperial forces advance from one of four directions and can damage your base once they get to close range. It’s your job to fend them off by using units and special abilities. The game is simple but fun because the Imperials just keep coming and coming until you’re pulling your hair out trying to figure out how to keep the pressure off your base.
If you win a battle of Base Command, you earn credits for your account. These credits can then be spent on unlocking weapons, Star Cards and more for Star Wars: Battlefront. There’s a hard limit on how much you can grind up from Base Command before launch, so don’t expect to have unlimited credits to buy up all the Star Wars: Battlefront goodies. There are only eight battles available now and you won’t gain extra credits from replaying a battle if you already earned all three stars from it. However, you can easily earn enough credits to buy the first two blasters, at least.
DICE plans to add additional missions to Base Command after launch and that’s going to awesome.
You can also use the Star Wars: Battlefront companion app to check out the full list of unlockables. Some of you already know all the unlockables thanks to the leaks, but it’s still nice to see it in an official capacity.
The companion app shares a lot of similarities with the Battlelog app from the Battlefield games. You can use it to check your stats and progress. You can also use the app to keep tabs on your friends or check out news updates straight from the developers.
Star Wars: Battlefront will debut next week on PS4, Xbox One and PC.
