Back on January 18th, 2016, two sisters ages 12 and 15 died in a Wisconsin house fire. It is truly a horrific news story of a family in grief, but there is some light at the end of this tunnel thanks to Halo 5.
The father of these two sisters is a big time Halo player. 343 Industries was made aware of the tragedy via this reddit post and their response was something truly thoughtful.
The girls’ father, Adam Bartels, is a Halo player by the name of thecrzedspartan. 343 created the Spartans Never Walk Pack as a tribute. Contained in the pack is the True Light Emblem, which features stars in a night sky. It is an animated emblem which received its name from the first letters of each of the girl’s names, Trinity and Lena.
Halo Chief Designer Josh Holmes elaborated on Halo Waypoint about the tragedy, including their plans to pay eternal tribute to the Bartels family. In the new Arena map, every time players look up at the starry sky, the names Trinity and Lena will be there. Forever.
“As players look up and scan the stars above, the names Trinity and Lena will be visible in the night sky. These are but small gestures meant to honour Adam’s daughters, ensuring that their memories are always close at hand within the universe he loves,” said Holmes.
Our hearts go out to the Bartels family. If you’d like to support the family, a Gofundme page has been set up in the daughter’s memory.
