Pikachu Gets Plastic Surgery in South Korea

Did you know that Seoul, South Korea, is the plastic surgery capital of the world, with more procedures per capita than any other nation?

One in five South Korean women have undergone some type of cosmetic procedure, compared with one in twenty in the United States.

The most common procedure in Korea is blepharoplasty, or double eyelid surgery. Basically, the procedure is the process of changing the Asian eyelid, commonly referred to as the “monolid,” into a double eyelid to give the recipient a more caucasian appearance.

According to the International Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery, it’s the most popular plastic surgery operation in the world, with 1.43 million people getting it done in 2014. It’s so common in Korea that a former Korean president got this very operation while he was in office.

But what would happen if an iconic video game character was traveling through South Korea? Would it swing by a plastic surgeon’s office to get their monolids “fixed”?

A Seoul-based clinic wondered this very thing and made it a reality. Apgujeong Seoul Plastic Surgery’s Facebook page shows Pikachu paying them a visit to get a new mug.

Take a look at this bizarre promotion below.

During the consultation, Pikachu seems to not like having a round “moon face.”

Oh boy. That looks like a lot of work to get done…

Dr. Lee Min-gu rattles off Pikachu’s plastic surgery, which included a face sculpting, eye surgery, a new chin, and botox, among other procedures.

And the result after two rounds of plastic surgery?

Apgujeong Seoul Plastic Surgery calls this a “collaboration” with Pikachu, but no confirmation as to whether or not they got the rights to use Pikachu’s image.

What do you think? Do you still choose Pikachu after his rounds of plastic surgery?
