Rainbow Six Siege is available to play for free this weekend, Thursday 24th August – Sunday 28th, on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC. The exact times the trials for each platform begin and end are as follows:
- PS4: 3pm BST 24th August – 3pm BST 28th August

- PC: 6pm BST 24th August – 9pm BST 28th August
Ubisoft’s first person shooter first released in December 2015 to critical acclaim, but has failed to reach the heights that fellow multiplayer shooters have. Its gameplay requires more a more tactical approach than Battlefield and Call of Duty, which is perhaps why it began life relatively unsuccessful commercially. It has, however, continued to stay relevant throughout its two year lifetime, in part because of its place in competitive gaming. Ubisoft recently announced that it has 2.3 million players every day, numbers much improved from when the game launched.
Rainbow Six: Siege will see its next major update, Year 2: Season 3, Operation Blood Orchid, arrive on PC Technical Test Server just after the free trial finishes, on Monday 29th August. It won’t launch fully across all platforms until 5th September, though. New features included in the update are a map based in Hong Kong and three new Operators, bringing with them three new gadgets. It will be a huge update similar in size to the game itself, and according to Ubisoft “the biggest update for Rainbow Six Siege since its launch”. It’s supposed to make future updates smaller and make the game run much faster.
The game will be half price between 24th August and 4th September in a bid to increase its player base. All progress made during the free trial will be carried over to the full game.
