While this is not the Rick and Morty RPG we have hoped for, we are optimistic that this silly take on classic Pokemon gameplay will be a delight to fans of the show (and hopefully get the show more attention too). If you are wondering why Rick and Morty are ripping off/paying homage to Pokemon, it’s rather easy to explain. Pokemon is a classic video game and the show’s creator Justin Roiland love of video games is well known. At least it has been well-known since Roiland starred in free heist game Dr. Langeskov, The Tiger, and the Terribly Cursed Emerald: A Whirlwind Heist while simultaneously working on his own virtual reality game for HTC Vive.
Adult Swim Games senior producer Chris Johnston has promised that Pocket Morty’s will be more substantial than the pair’s previous mobile game offerings, such as “balloon-popping simulator” Rick and Morty: Jerry’s Game.
Rick and Morty’s Pocket Morty’s is available to download for free on January 14th, 2016. Until then, we are shouting “Wubalubadubdub!” to no one in particular.
