Nintendo rocked the world earlier this week when they revealed the trailer for their upcoming Detective Pikachu game.
What was so world-rocking about the trailer? It wasn’t so much that the adorable, electric rodent was teaming up with a young man to help solve crime. What really rocked the world was Detective Pikachu’s deep voice–or rather the deep-voiced voice actor Nintendo employed to portray Detective Pikachu.
For nearly twenty years, we’ve known Pikachu voice to be high-pitched, as we’ve heard him repeat “Pika” and “Pikachu”. Why they chose to suddenly switch to a deep voice confounded fans.
But now, a large group of fans have emerged that want to ensure Nintendo America runs with the new gravely, deep-voiced Pikachu when the game reaches North America. To do so, they have started an online petition lobbying Nintendo to cast Danny DeVito as the voice of Detective Pikachu.
Their message is brief, simply writing to Nintendo: “Get Danny DeVito to voice the English version of Detective Pikachu.”
Physical resemblance aside, who could be better than Danny DeVito to play the grizzled, mystery-solving Pokemon? I certainly can’t think of anyone, which is why I signed the petition supporting the movement.
At the time I’m writing this, the petition has been online for less than a day and has already garnered 4,616 of the 5,000 signatures necessary. So please, if you too believe that Danny DeVito was born to play this role, sign the petition now.
YouTuber TealHollow1 remixed the Detective Pikachu trailer to show everyone exactly why casting Danny DeVito as Pikachu is a great idea.
As of the time of this update, 19,497 people have signed a Change.org petition.
