Once upon a time, gamers had to settle for whatever games the big companies created. We were at their whims with hardly any say of our own. But now that’s all changed thanks to modding and to lesser extent Super Mario Maker. Super Mario Maker, the game that lets Wii U players design and share their own Mario levels, is very close to a stroke of genius on paper. Who wouldn’t want to design their own Super Mario levels? However, the Super Mario Maker Honest Trailer by Smosh Games knocks the game down several pegs.
Watch the Super Mario Maker Honest Trailer below and be amused by Smosh Games’ brutal honesty.
“Get ready to follow in the footsteps of the great Shigeru Miyamoto by defacing his greatest creation with a bunch of badly designed content. Good job!” had me in stitches. It’s funny because it’s true.
Super Mario Maker, though seemingly innocuous, is actually a pretty divisive game. Before the game was released, Nintendo aggressively shut down anyone making their own classic Mario levels and making them available to play for free in order to start charging money for a limited, often clunky toolbox. Furthermore, the levels that some people make are God-awful. This is why we feel this Super Mario Maker Honest Trailer is such a breath of fresh air.
