The New DOOM is Basically a Bloodier Halo

“Bloody. Brutal. And VERY fast.” is how the new DOOM is being advertised, and the latest trailer certainly confirms these qualities.

Despite the bloody, fast-paced brutality of this new shooter, we can’t ignore the fact that the game looks very much like a Halo spin-off where Spartans can access demonic powers to transform into blood-thirsty creatures from the abyss.

Watch the new DOOM trailer below and judge for yourself.

Truth be told, the multiplayer does look like it has a ton of potential, but how much the generic space marines look like Spartans from Halo does rub me the wrong way.

DOOM basically invented the first-person shooter genre and to see the franchise get relegated to just another Halo derivative is sad. Although, I suppose I shouldn’t be too surprised as the cover art was so uninspired, that it literally could serve any popular shooter franchise. See it here.

If you purchased Wolfenstein: The New Order on PS4 or PS3, you’ll be able to experience the Doom multiplayer weeks ahead of the game’s May launch date. They will be running a closed beta for those eligible between 31st March and 3rd April. To check eligibility requirements, please

Participants will be able to try out Team Deathmatch and the recently revealed Warpath mode on two maps: Heatwave and Infernal.

All you have to do to access the closed beta is redeem the beta code you received with your copy of Wolfenstein: The New Order if you have not already done so. Follow the code activation instructions for PS4.

What do you think about this trailer? Does the aesthetic resemblance to Halo bother you at all? Is the chance to transform into a vicious demon enough to entice you despite the obvious similarities to Halo? Let us know what you think in the comments.
