Teenagers find the Xbox brand ‘cooler’ than PlayStation, whereas 18 – 25 year olds prefer Sony’s brand over Microsoft’s, a new study has found.
The report, which was carried out by YouGov and Gutcheck but commissioned by Google, was carried out with the intention of finding out teenagers’ and millennials’ favourite brands. The results from all three surveys revealed that 13 – 17 year olds think Xbox is the fourth ‘coolest’ brand in the world, with Sony’s system down in seventh, with YouTube, Netflix, and Google placing first, second, and third respectively.
Unsurprisingly Nintendo is way behind according to both age groups, although The Legend of Zelda was found to be one of the most popular video game franchises among the teens. Other series’ they find ‘cool’ are Call of Duty: Black Ops, Grand Theft Auto, Pokemon, Minecraft, and Counter Strike: Global Offensive.
1600 teens and 800 millennials were surveyed in total and all from the U.S, so the data may not be true for age groups in other countries. With details of Microsoft’s Xbox Scorpio being revealed later this week, Microsoft may be hoping they can claw back part of that, albeit small, millennial population.
