A California high school student showed his love for one of his favorite video games by bringing it to his prom as his date.
Chris Burwell shared photos of himself and the disc of Nintendo video game “Super Smash Bros. Melee” attending his high school’s prom.
“I took my one true love Melee to prom,” he wrote.
Burwell told New York Magazine that he was inspired by a similar stunt he saw online.
“I saw a couple weeks ago that a guy took his waifu to prom, and I thought, ‘That’s very funny, but I’m not that bad. What else could I could I do?'” Burwell said. “And I thought I’ll take Melee, because there’s such a big fan base and I’m one of those fans. It felt right. It was the heat of the moment.”
Apparently, Burwell found himself without a date, which is why he went ahead with the idea. “It was always going to be Smash,” Burwell said. “I’m not, like, a total loser, but I don’t know any girls that I would take.”
The other students and chaperones at the prom appreciated the joke and it ensured that his night was a memorable one.
“I had the time of my life. This was my first high school dance — I never did anything like that before,” he said. “I think that’s very memorable and I don’t regret it at all.”
Which video game would you bring as your prom date?
