Do you remember being super excited in 2001 to see Angelina Jolie play Lara Croft in the highly anticipated film adaptation of the Tomb Raider franchise? I do. I also remember leaving the theatre confused, thinking, “It’s a Tomb Raider with Angelina Jolie and U2 on the soundtrack…it has to be good…right? RIGHT?! YES IT IS GOOD.”
After fifteen years, a sequel that was even more disappointing than the first movie and an extended stint in rehabilitative therapy, I have come to accept that Lara Croft: Tomb Raider is yet another failed attempt to adapt an awesome video game into a serviceable movie. Thankfully, I haven’t completely written off Tomb Raider film adaptations entirely or else I probably would have not given this amazing Tomb Raider fan film a chance.
The Fury Fingers YouTube channel posted today an impressive new 4K fan film based on Rise of the Tomb Raider. Lara, played here by cosplayer and professional fight choreographer Shiveeejam (see her cosplay excellence on Instagram), is down to her last arrow and faced with a range of enemy guards. It’s simply but boy does it work.

Shot over two days with a budget of approximately $1,500, you can see more the production’s behind the scenes here. And while you’re at it, why not Like Fury Fingers on Facebook. More likes means more movies like these in the future, which can only be a good thing!
Rise of the Tomb Raider launches at the end of the month on PC and later this year on PS4, it originally released for Xbox 360 and Xbox One in November.
