It has been 14 years since the first Halo game, Halo: Combat Evolved, came out, so don’t feel bad if the details of how the first-person-shooter space opera has unfolded thus far are a little bit hazy. But Halo 5 will be released on October 27th, 2015, which means we all need to take 5-minutes to brush up on series lore so we are all on the same page when we hit play.
Lucky for us, IGN cut together a near-perfect Halo saga recap just in time for Halo 5. In less than five minutes, get all caught up on what’s up with Master Chief so that your hunt for him as Spartan Locke is a successful one. Watch the recap below. There are SPOILERS, so beware.
All caught up? Ready for Halo 5? If you are still weary of what a new Halo game has to offer, just know that Halo 5 will be introducing a new conception: exploration spaces.
These non-combat campaigns were designed to give players time to investigate and learn more about the game, which certainly sounds like it will be a more immersive experience than previous Halo games.
“These particular chapters will give you a chance to catch a breath, but also to explore, to look, and to listen. More than perhaps any other campaign in Halo history, there is story to be found to those willing to look and listen – whether that be to your squadmates themselves, or perhaps to other characters that are scattered throughout the environment,” says Grimbrother on Halo Waypoint forums.
Halo 5: Guardians is also planning to implement new rules with more stringent punishments for unethical gaming conduct such as quitting matches, killing your teammates, idling during the match, intentional suicides and too many disconnections.
Halo 5 is also said to have a Day One Patch that’s 9 GB so make sure to clear up some space on your Xbox One hard drive if you are approaching the 500 GB storage limit.
