BlizzCon 2015 has come and gone. On top of revealing the first Warcraft movie trailer, BlizzCon 2015 had some new footage from upcoming new Blizzard games. World of Warcraft is finally getting a new expansion (despite losing more users), Starcraft 2 has a new expansion on the horizon and Blizzard’s MOBA-shooter Overwatch is already shaping up to be the gaming sensation of 2016. Even Blizzard’s collectible card game Hearthstone is getting an expansion, “The League of Explorers“.
While purists will no doubt be upset that we’ve lumped three expansions with a new Blizzard game, but the fact remains that the new content the expansions will contain make the older titles feel like new Blizzard games. Regardless of whether or not you agree with expansions being classified as a new Blizzard game, it’s time to look at the trailers that were released at BlizzCon 2015 to decide which new Blizzard game we are most excited for.
World of Warcraft: Legion
World of Warcraft’s sixth expansion, Legion, will be available in summer 2016 and it will include a new continent called The Broken Isles. The level cap will be increased from level 100 to level 110, and a reworked player-versus-player honor system will also be in effect. New artifact weapons are being introduced that will allow players to customize legendary weapons. There will also be a new class: Demon Hunter. Pre-ordering the game now immediately grants a one-character boost to level 100.
Maybe we’re just suffering from WoW malaise but we’re more excited for the movie than a tour of the Broken Isles.
Starcraft 2: Legacy of the Void
Legacy of the Void launches on PC November 10th with plans to extend Starcraft 2‘s story with DLC mission packs, the first of which will focus on Terran Ghost Nova. The trailer certainly makes the latest Starcraft 2 expansion seem like it’s the beginning of the end for the beloved space-war franchise, and if that’s the case, it looks like it’s going to end with a bang.
Excitement for Starcraft 2: Legacy of the Void is high.
Blizzard’s new Team Fortress-esque, MOBA-shooter Overwatch will be available on PC, Xbox One and PS4 sometime in Spring 2016. Expect to see a lot of coverage leading up to the new Blizzard game’s release, but for the time being just be excited. It’s the first piece of original Blizzard intellectual property in forever, so we are most excited for Overwatch. Sequels and expansions are fine in moderation, but something entirely new that has amazing gameplay trailers makes us feel like kids again.
Hearthstone: League of Explorers
Anything Indiana Jones-inspired is fine with us, but this new Hearthstone story mode couldn’t muster more excitement than Overwatch even if it somehow had a young Harrison Ford reprising his iconic role.
Sorry, Hearthstone but your latest expansion amounts to little more than a shrug compared to Overwatch.
Now that you are up to speed on the new Blizzard games, which one are you most excited for? Let us know in the comments.
