Magerealm: Rise of Chaos is a 3D browser MMORPG released by the same folks that brought us League of Angels 2. You wake up as the last mage to have survived the fall of the Holy City. and asked to choose from one of three unique classes:
- Realmguards – A warrior/tank class
- Spellmasters – The glass canon class
- Thruthkeepers – A hybrid rogue/assassin class
Your quest will be to level up your character from a puny level 1 mage to Ultimate Butt Kicker, dominate the PVP arena, build your team of Heroes and Angels and save the world in this Diablo-esque browser game.
Game content can use some work
Magerealm is a fairly straightforward game. You go from point A to point B and follow the story line. The game has this autoplay feature that makes it a bit too easy to progress. Even though this is a standard feature in most browser MMOs, Magerealm takes it a bit further and makes the game idiotproof by doing everything for you.
Actually, almost everything is automated. Which is good if you hate grinding.
Graphics are pretty cool
There are no downloads in browser games, which means they need to stay light so they can play in your browser. This usually means graphics aren’t all that great. However, Magerealm managed to produce some very interesting art and environments. Everything is stylish.
Even the music is decent as it switches up between environments. You can listen to booming tribal or soothing Enya-sounding tunes as you travel through their world.
Leveling Up in Magerealm
It’s best to play the game until level 50 before you decide if you like it or not. To help you make it through each level, you will need to recruit heroes and angels.
Angels offer you buffs and powerful spells to help you get out of trouble. Heroes are like mercs. You call them in battle. To find more Guardian Angels and Heroes, players will need to gamble in the Recruit Heroes menu to get access to higher stats characters.
PVP done right
Unlike most other browser MMORPGs, Magerealm got creative with their PVP arenas. You have traditional 1v1 Arenas that are unlocked after level 29. You can also create private PVP rooms for your friends and guildies to face off against each other.
Competitive Mode is available after a player has finished his daily PVP quests. Players can compete in PVP battle against any other player REGARDLESS of level!
There are guild 5v5 capture the flag and Turf War battles. There is also a small gambling game called Prizefights where players place their bets and winner takes all. PVP fights reward the player with Prestige and Honor points which can be exchanged for exclusive gear in the Honor Shop.
Might be pay to win
Players who pay definitely have an advantage, especially on new servers! The game is designed to cost more the further along you progress, so be prepared to spend a few bucks if you want to be competitive in the top rankings of Magerealm.
Is Magerealm worth playing? Only if you’re new to MMORPGs. There are some better games out there that are more entertaining for experienced players. Albeit beautiful, this game can get boring with all the automation. YES, you can turn it off, but there’s no real incentive to do it. Also, the game can be glitchy sometimes and the developers seemed to have moved on to other projects. Don’t expect too many updates in the near future.
However, if you’re looking for a way to kill sometime and meet some dedicated players (those that still play are very fun and to chat with), then Magerealm is worth trying! It can’t hurt since its free-to-play! 🙂
